Become a couples counsellor with an online couples counselling education
Would you like to help couples strengthen their relationship and deal with challenges? Our online couples counselling education provides you with both theoretical knowledge and practical tools so that you can support couples through difficult periods and create lasting change in their relationship.
At our couples counseling education, we believe that all couples are different, and so should the approach to them. That is why we will introduce you to different approaches and tools that our experienced instructors have used in practice. You will learn how to best meet the needs of couples using methods that work in practice and not just in theory.
The education combines theory with practical teaching through realistic cases, videos, and specific exercises and methods. In addition, you will have access to uniquely developed professional literature that cuts to the core of the most important topics, equipping you to work professionally with couples counselling in practice.
The education is 100% online and gives you complete flexibility to study at your own pace. There are no fixed times or deadlines to which you must adapt your daily life, making it possible to tailor the programme to your specific daily life and individual needs.
Three quick facts about the couples counselling education
At Nordic Online Academy, you can study to become a couples counsellor at your own pace. The entire education consists of nine modules, which you can complete at your own pace. We recommend that you spread our couples counsellor education over a minimum of four to six months. This six-month period will give you a better understanding of the theoretical perspectives within couples counselling.
As a couples counsellor, you will be working emotionally with your clients. This requires a certain amount of empathy, as you need to be able to guide your clients towards the best solutions. Working as a couples counsellor is very much about human relationships. Fortunately, our couples counsellors education will provide you with the knowledge and experience you need to tackle situations in different relationships in the best possible way.
Like many other self-employed professions, your salary may depend on how many clients you choose to take on.

Facts about the education
Practical information about the couples counsellor education
What literature is used in the couple counsellor education?
As a student, you will be presented with extensive and unique literature for all units in the Education. All literature on our couple counselling education is prepared by our teachers, based on their work, experience, education and knowledge of couple therapy as well as Danish and international research.
You’ll find that there are a lot of new technical terms you’ll need to relate to and understand. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that you will have to read parts of the literature several times. It’s normal to find certain topics challenging at first. Remember that learning is a process and we are here to support you as you develop your understanding of couple counselling.
Who is the target group for the couple counseller education?
There are no requirements for previous work experience or educational background for the couple counseller education. The most important thing is that you have an interest and desire to work professionally with couples counselling and human relationships after completing the education programme.
As a starting point, our couples counsellor education is typically aimed at the following target groups:
Industry changers:
Here the student has no prior knowledge of the profession. The student gains learning and new competences based on a desire to change industry. This may be with a desire to start their own practice in the field or in interaction with our sexology practitioner education.
Sexologists, coaches, therapists or therapists:
These are students who want the education as a supplement or specialisation to their current skills and use in their own practice.
How long does the education take?
The duration of the education depends on how you choose to study. At Nordic Online Academy you have full flexibility – you can study where and when it suits you, at your own pace. Therefore, you have a great deal of influence over how long it takes to complete the education.
If you want a deep and solid understanding of couple counselling, we recommend that you take the time to immerse yourself in the education and reflect on the topics you learn. This reflection is important as it prepares you for the challenges you will face as a professional couples counsellor and helps you build a stronger professional base.
We therefore recommend that you contact our student counsellors for personal sparring and help in planning your course of study.
What is the format of the education?
The education format is 100% digital. This means that after registration, you will receive your welcome letter and your personal login to the education in our user-friendly learning platform. The platform is structured in modules that you work through one at a time at your own pace.
Remember that you are never alone with your education. Our student counselling is ready to help you, whether you have technical, practical or academic questions. You can easily contact us by chat or email before, during and after your education.
What kind of help can I expect during the education?
On the couple counseller training programme, you can expect extensive support from our student counselling before, during and after your education. Although the education is based on self-study, we are here to spar with you and guide you throughout the process. We are ready to help you before, during and after your education, so you can feel safe and well guided.
Before your education:
We are ready to answer your questions about the structure, content and practical details of the education programme. Our goal is to ensure that you feel well prepared and confident about starting your education.
During your education:
If you have any questions along the way, our student counsellors and experts are always ready to help you with personal and professional guidance. Whether it’s about specific modules, assignments or practical challenges, you can get help and support whenever you need it.
After your education:
Once you’ve completed your couple counseller training, we’re ready to help and support you in your next steps. We offer career counselling and help you feel confident and equipped to start your career as a couples counsellor.
Do I have to take an exam?
No, at Nordic Online Academy we have chosen not to end our educations with a traditional exam. Instead, we work with continuous evaluation through Multiple Choice Tests after each module.
These tests are designed to reinforce your learning along the way, and they allow you to reflect on the content as you progress through the education. The tests are not just a form of control – they are a tool to ensure that you understand and can apply what you are learning. This way, you can take things at your own pace and gain a deeper understanding of the education.
Once you have completed and passed all the modules, you will receive your certificate documenting your new competences.
How long do I have access to the educational material?
When you sign up for the couples counsellor education, you get access to the course material for a full 2 years. This period ensures you have plenty of time to learn at your own pace and you can easily return to the material whenever you need to. Whether you want to refresh your knowledge or dive deeper into specific topics, you have the flexibility and time to do so.
Plus, you’ll also have the option to download the training material so you can use it along the way and even after the education is complete, giving you value for a long time to come.
Need more time to complete your education? Don’t worry – we offer the option to extend your access.
Will I receive a certificate during the education?
Yes, once you have completed the couples counselling education, you will automatically receive a certificate by email. The certificate serves as proof of the skills you have acquired and the knowledge you have gained. You can use it to strengthen your professional profile, for example by adding it to your LinkedIn page or other platforms where you want to showcase your qualifications.
Can I receive career guidance in connection with my education?
Yes, you certainly can. At Nordic Online Academy, it is important to us to support you and ensure that you progress well in your career within the field.
As you approach the end of your education, our learning platform gives you the opportunity to book career guidance based on your specific situation and wishes for the future. In career counseling, we typically focus on how you can gain practical experience as a natural next step after completing your education. This can take the form of employment (including activation of our network within the field and experience from other students) or guidance on starting your own business.
Together with our student counseling, we ensure that you get all the support and guidance you need—before, during, and after your education. If you have any questions, you can always contact us via chat or email.
Is there an opportunity for a networking group?
Yes, as part of your couples counsellor education, we offer networking groups that give you the opportunity to build a strong professional network while you are still studying. In the networking groups, you can share experiences, discuss relevant topics, and support each other in your development as future couples therapists. The groups create a valuable space for exchanging ideas and getting feedback from both fellow students and graduates.
If you are interested in participating in a networking group, please contact us. We continuously match students from the couples counselling education into new networking groups based on factors such as experience, geography, and future goals.

What costs should I expect for couples counsellor education?
The couples counselling education at Nordic Online Academy costs EUR 2,950, and that’s it. The price includes proprietary literature for all sections of the program, as well as all other learning materials used during the education. There will also be recommendations for additional literature if you want to delve deeper, but this is not a requirement.
Compared to physical educations in couples therapy, our price is extremely attractive. This is due to our online format, which eliminates the costs of classrooms and other physical facilities. Our focus is on offering a quality education that is accessible to everyone—and at an affordable price.
What our students say
Experiences from the couples counselling education
It has been a great process, and I love that it has been a good mix of video lessons and text. I used the information from the videos to write notes in my little notebook, and I printed out the text so I could underline important things. It has suited me perfectly to be able to take the modules online at my own pace.
Pia, Denmark – Couples counsellor
I have completed my education as a couples therapist and am now studying to become a sexologist. I am doing this as an extension of my educational training. My goal has always been to practice and have my own clinic. And now, shortly after completing my training, I have achieved that goal. The program is clearly structured, has relevant literature, and is incredibly accessible. The dialogue with NOA has been fantastic from start to finish, and I have really felt well supported in moving in the direction I wanted for my professional career.
Andrea, Denmark – Couples counsellor
I am so glad I chose to become a couples counsellor. The programme has been really good and very educational, and it fits in so well with the sexology training I took previously. The two courses complement each other really well, and I look forward to using my new knowledge in my own practice.
Jane, Denmark – Couples counsellor
